Zinc sulfide

Powder

Pieces

Zinc sulfide (ZnS) is a zinc salt of hydrogen sulfide acid. White powder, density 3.98-4.09 g/cm³. Does not melt at normal pressure, at 15 MPa (150 atm) it melts at 1850°C. Insoluble in water, soluble in acids with the formation of corresponding salts and release of hydrogen sulfide. In the presence of traces of copper, cadmium, silver, etc. acquires the ability to luminescence. In nature, ZnS occurs in the form of the minerals sphalerite (zinc hoax), which is the main raw material for zinc, and wurtzite.

ZINC SULFIDE is used to create luminophores, in semiconductor lasers. Zinc sulfide-based nanostructures are used in medicine, optoelectronics, laser technology, QD-LED displays, etc. Zinc sulfide is used to manufacture IR-transparent windows and lenses. Zinc sulfide is used in defense equipment. Optical devices made of ZnS are used in various instruments of high-speed aircraft.
